eidgenossen: (How barbaric.)

[The gunfire of shotguns fills the air and Angela can't help but shoot a worried look over her shoulder as she runs- guilt and worry that she couldn't stay behind to help Genji fills her, but as she gains her bearings she resolves to put her trust in him. The Genji who would stubbornly put a mission at risk to see all of his foes cut down was gone.

On several occasions she needs to stop and press herself to the side of whatever cover she can find- there were several guard towers positioned all around the camp, and she couldn't be so sure the sniper wasn't still looking for her. The next time, she knows, they won't aim for a wing.

Her heart leaps in relief when she sees there was still one transportation vehicle that had not yet left. The awkward teenager from the mess hall pulls her up and she topples onto the floor of the truck's bed with an undignified oof. A drab blanket is hastily thrown over her and everyone else, a meager attempt at camouflage as the truck sputters to life and drives off into the desert.

She huddles in a corner of the bed, fighting the urge to lift their cover. Guilt settles back in her stomach as she takes in the frightened faces of her fellow passengers- was all of this really because of her? Who was that man- what was he?

Her eyes close and she sighs, pressing her staff towards the gash on her forehead. There's a tingling feeling as the nanites swarm the wound, uncomfortable and then fading to a dull pleasantness as the cut is sealed up, leaving behind only dried blood. She spends the rest of the trip patching up everyone else's wounds. Her thoughts drift to Genji at times, some part of her hoping he'll suddenly come tumbling into the back of the truck like she did.

The dilapidated ruins of the town aren't much, but they're more solid than tents. By the time they arrive the sun is well up- at least they'll be able to see any surprise attacks now. Angela puts herself to work with the soldiers, patching up their injuries and getting some food and water in them. Nobody had thought to ask a doctor if she knew anything about their attackers, so she kept her mouth shut as she worked. She needed to talk to Genji about it- every now and then she'll be caught staring off in the direction they had fled from, a worried look on her face.]
